For Symphony Orchestra or Concert Band
GRADE 3.5 – 4
Band and Strings Combined
THE CONSORTIUM - $250 BUY-IN
After the premiere on March 14, 2020, consortium members will have exclusive rights to the piece for the remainder of the 2019-2020 academic year.
Several years ago I tackled the issue of homelessness with "A Solitary Wish." Now, I am tackling a new subject - students with special needs. I am inviting you to join a consortium for a piece that is being written for traditional symphony orchestra instrumentation but also will work with concert band instrumentation alone (or band and strings combined). The grade is 3.5 - 4. The title is "Super (Em)Powers" and will be premiered at the Music for All National Festival in March with members of United Sound performing. Consortium members will have exclusive performing rights for the remainder of the academic year. The concept is based on how teachers and parents often view special needs kids as having their own superpowers. And when members of United Sound pair up with a student mentor, the powerful relationships that are formed are just as important as the musical opportunities being offered to students who otherwise may not ever have the chance to perform. So, this piece will be a full-out film-score-style superhero theme.
